going to be a wet and cool day. now over to sharon at traffic control. >> good morning. a byusy morning on the roads as well. three accidents on major roadways, one of them on the inner loop in the area of 97. another accident on the east side of the beltway on the inner loop past eastern boulevard. third crashon the southbound lanes of the jfx past coal fringe lane. water main break still blocking light street. a new problem downtown, art escape closures are in effect through monday morning. we have from the jfx to southbound saint paul street is closed. you'll find closures on charles and several other roads in that area. watch for a downed tree in pasadena at olivia way. there's a look at your speeds. no delays out there on the top or west side of the beltway. there's a look at the northwest side at green spring avenue, everything

running smooth except for the wet roads. we're following that breaking news out of colorado where at least 14 people are dead after a shooting at a movie theater near denver. it happened at a screening of the dark night rises, the new bat man movie that premiered at midnight. 50 other people were hurt. police are checking the area for explosives and have evacuated the area. one witness who was in a theater next to the shooting describes the scene. >> i saw at least four, maybe five people limping, wounded, slightly bloody. i saw a girl who was covered in blood and she didn't have any wounds on her. i mean, it kind of -- it made me think the worst. >> one suspect has been arrested. police have found exemployee civils in -- explosives in that person's home. please stay with wjz, we'll have the latest on this developing story. back here in baltimore,

people are waking up to the damage left behind from winds and rain. mike schuh is live in canton with a look at the impact. >> reporter: good morning. trees are down here. lightening, thund er, high winds, trees down, flooding. unfortunately it's just another day in maryland. >> a fast moving storm moves through parts of maryland battering county -- downtown baltimore. >> we had this massive storm come in, lightening, thunder. it was exciting. >> that excitement came with a price in canton. the storm knocked down this tree. witness -- eyewitness news received this pick frur from the hilton. >> the faster it moves the better i like it. >> the draining painfully slow in some places. this garage on caroline street flooded.

on the street countless cars were flooded and drivers were left bailing out water. >> how bad is it? >> i mean, the car seems to be run aring. e -- running. it's flooded. >> the rain is helping the drought maryland has been under. blue water baltimore says the flood water is up in the chesapeake bay. >> what most people don't realize is storm water dount go to waste water treatment plants, it goes directly to streams untreated. >> reporter: clearly the city is still overwhelmed from the damage two weeks ago. it's been 12 hours since this tree was broken in half and the bar owner said unless the city comes by soon and picks this up he's going to call a private contractor to get it out of the way because it's taking up parking spaces. reporting live, mike schuh. back to you on tv hill. >> thank you. when severe

weather hits, remember wjz is always on. for the latest forcaste and live doppler -- forecast and live doppler radar log onto wjz.com. this morning we have a school closure, day classes and activities will be canceled at cbcb dundolk due to a power outage. a high speed chase ends in a dramatic crash. meghan me mccorkell was the only reporter at the scene. >> baltimore city police said they tried to pull that suv driver over just because he wasn't wearing his seat belt. he slowed down and then just took off. sky eye chopper 13 over the scene as the driver fleeing police goes head onto another car on telegraph road. it didn't stop there. that suspect jumps out of the car and takes off on foot. heavily armed officers and k-9s rushed through the woods, backyards and

parks. nearly an hour later, wjz is only camera on the scene, as police find the suspect siding inside a vacant home. >> pretty crazy but justice prevailed. >> ed was behind the wheel of his car when the suspect's durango swerved right into him. >> he swerved the try to avoid me, i swerved to try to avoid him and i guess our cars hit. >> the pursuit started in downtown baltimore where police say the driver sideswiped several cars and fled busting a temporary water main. when the suv hit 395 police followed by air as the driver erratically swerved along 97 south, route 100 and telegraph road before he crashed. >> that's a long ride. >> this is what's left of the durango after the crash. you can see the side crushed in and pieces of the car all over the ground. >> neighbors here still in

shock. >> it's va send it over -- it's crazy. >> they're just relieved the suspect was stopped. we're learned the driver of that suv is 26-year-old daryl watkins, junior. he was wanted for a parole violation. >> the suspect could now face charges in both baltimore city and ann arundel county. this morning a pilot has been killed after a small plane crash on the eastern shore. the plane was carrying an advertising banner when it went down yesterday in berlin. witnesses tell police the aircraft appeared to have engine trouble and clipped a tree. this morning as crews continue to fix a major water main break downtown, the ageing water supply system is facing new problems. mike hellgren reports the situation is now getting the attention of capitol hill. >> the break of a 133-year-old water main turned light street into a river, shutting it down for 3 weeks for repairs.

dpw knew the main was at risk but with little moneys an others classified as high risk it hadn't been replaced. senator ben carton is calling on congress for help. >> this is not a one state problem. this is a national problem. i can tell you people are outraged. >> baltimore's city crumbing system supplies the entire region. even with water rates going up 9% and $300 million in replacement pipe goes in the the next 5 years many fear it is still not enough to keep up with the ageing system. >> major can stephanie rawlings blake of baltimore testified that she would like to see some tomorrow of a trust fund establish -- form of a trust find established. this makes sense. >> back on light street a temporary water system finally allows businesses to reopen. >> i'm shocked. it looks

really scary. >> anxious, scared, nervous. >> many wonder when and where will the next emergency strike. in the work along light street they are sticking to the 3 week estimate to get it fixed but it could shift depending what they find when they get under the ground. >> the final cost for the light street repairs hasn't been tallied but it's estimated to be in the millions. the man who killed 13 people at fort hood could have been stopped. that's the conclusion from a new report blasting the fbi for ignoring red flags. the findings from former fbi director william webster side agents ignored warning signs. turning to sports, the oriels rally past the twins for another win. pitching has been a problem but chen changed that last night. he went 7 innings and only gave up 3 runs.

his strong performance was fuelled after mark reynolds slams a two run single in the 8th. the oriels take the win 4-3 splitting the series with the twins. saturday night the o's and indians play at 7:00 live right here on wjz 13. let's take a look at first warning doppler weather radar. we had those heavy, heavy rainstorms move through the area during the dinner hours and then we had -- believe it or not, that was more scattered than effecting a wide area during the dinner hours. during the bedtime hours and the over night we had area wide rain which now sits off to the east. more on its way later. take a look at the temperature on tv hill right now, 73. that's 4 degrees cooler than this time yesterday. at lunch still 79 on its way to a high of only 82 with the

afternoon, evening and frankly all the way through tomorrow periods of rain, maybe a couple of thunderstorms thrown in. it's rain we desperately need. having said that, we need more of a soaking rain that's gentle and lasts three or four hours than -- we're actually going to see a little bit of both through the day. it's been a morning of intense breaking news. having said that, on this show a lot of times we have to shift gears. we'll continue to cover the shooting in colorado with our friends from cbs and of course complete coverage at 7:00 with the cbs morning program, erica hill and charlie rose. we have art escape this weekend. it is a very, very big deal for the city of baltimore. gigi, you know this is one of the biggest city festivals in the united states of america. we do it once again this weekend. it's a beautiful thing for this area. let's talk about it. how are you today? >> reporter: i'm well.

here is first warning doppler weather radar. here are the showers that came through over night. out to the west there's more moisture that's going to follow this path. there's a frontal boundary stalled. right now we are on the humid side of that front. take a look. 96% humidity, 73 light now. -- right now. barometer is at 29.88. the low 70s cumberland,

a brave little girl saves her own life by fighting and kicking her would be kidnapper. it happened on a neighborhood street in philadelphia. mary bubala reports on the community out rage and her amazing es scape. >> video of the girl fighting off her attacker. you see the girl walking with her 2-year-old bloer when a man come -- brother when a man comes up from behind. he picks her up, she starting

kicking and screaming. the man drops her. >> it's a sick individual to do something like that. i want this creep off our streets immediately. >> today police did just that, arresting 33-year-old carlos figuroro. he tirned -- turned himself in feeling the pressure. >> because of the press conference yesterday and because of all the information, because of all of your sharing information with the public this defendant knew that he couldn't keep walking the streets and that people were going to come get him. >> police said the girl did the right thing by kicking and screaming and scaring off the suspect. >> for a little girl to be able to fight off a grown man and remember a full description it takes a lot. i'm proud of her. >> the attack was caught by a surveillance camera by a neighbor's home. >> it's scary. it's makeing people nervous, making people think they can't bring their kids out and let them play outside by themselves. that's knot right. >> the suspect is facing

near a car with a gas mask, rifle handgun, one additional weapon on top of that. one witness who was in a theater next to the shooting describes what he saw. >> we were watching a scene of the movie. it was a shoot out scene. there were guns firing. a loud bang came from the right of the theater. smoke took over the entire theater and it was thick and no one could see anything. me and my sister were sitting there wondering what was going on. >> the suspect has been taken into custody. police found explosives in that person's home. police say there could be more causalities. please stay with wjz for the latest on this developing story. back here mother nature leaves a mess after severe storms hit our area from flash floods to strong winds the damage is clear this morning. mike schuh is live in canton with a look at the after math. good morning, mike. >> reporter: good morning, jessica. good morning, everyone. the downed trees aren't stopping the delivery of kegs to the scare in canton.

morning. the break of the 133 water main turned light street into a river. now it will be shut down for 3 weeks for repairs. senator ben cardin is calling on congress for help. he said the ageing water system is a problem facing many states. explosive e-mails, the man who killed 13 people at fort hood could have been stopped. that's the conclusion from a new report blasting the fb for ignoring -- fbi for ignoring red flags. >> fbi agents missed obvious warning signs that accused fort hood gunman nidal hassan presented a potential danger. those are the findings in a blunt report from former fbi director william webster. webster's report concludes individuals who handled the hassan information made mistakes. investigators conducted more than 100 interviews and reviewed more than 10,000 pages of documents, including 18 e-mails exchained between hassan and radical

al-qaeda cleric. in one of the e-mails hassan wrote, i would assume that a suicide bomber whose aim is to kill enemy soldiers or their helpers but killing innocence in the process is acceptable. he wrote 16 of the e-mails and only got two responses. fbi agents decided hassan was not a real threat. fbi agents in san diego saw all the e-mails. while their counter parts at the washington field off of wfo only saw two. one san diego agent asked if hassan was working undercover. quote, we were wondering if we were missing something. the washington agent said no. wfo does not assess hassan to be involved in terrorist activities. >> washington fbi agents

about all those things when i wanted to become a wrestler. i was a fan as a child and watched it like everyone else did. you know, i just desh when i was in my 20 -- when i was in my 20s i got hooked on it bad thinking i can't miss it. finally i found a wrestling school and people are thinking there's wrestling schools. just got to find a good one. the first time i went to the wrestling school i just always knew that i was going to do this. >> so you have preparation but then luck has to come into play. what was your lucky break? >> my lucky break was a girl named no -- nora. she met me one time and said to me, you have a different look, you have just something different to offer so why don't you combif -- give me some of your pictures, video stuff. i got call from one of the companies later and i had a try out and got signed. >> i'm watching you do this.
